Teignbridge Council is celebrating after learning it has retained its prestigious Investor In People (IIP) accreditation for the third year in succession. The award, which recognises high standards of good practice in managing staff including training and development excellence, was confirmed last month by IIP Assessor Angela Riley after a full week of rigorous interviews and assessments. Cllr Ray Frost, Teignbridge executive spokesman for human resources, said: 'I am delighted Teignbridge has retained the award for the third year in succession. Investing in our own staff demonstrates we are a responsible authority with belief in the value of a committed workforce that is professionally trained and able to deliver high quality services to our customers.' The Investor in People Standard provides a framework of good practice based on 10 indicators covering such issues as strategies for improving the performance of an organisation, and recognising the importance of having a well trained and committed workforce. The size and type of organisation isn't critical, instead the Standard recognises that particular organisations will meet the same criteria in different ways. The emphasis is on using different means to achieve success through staff and customers. Cllr Frost added: 'Investor in People is a national standard to which organisations aspire countrywide. 'It is commonly accepted that people are an organisation's greatest asset, and for an organisation to succeed everyone has to perform well. To achieve this, people need the right knowledge, skills and motivation to work efficiently. 'We are committed to carrying on providing the opportunities to all our staff and demonstrating that high quality customer care starts on our doorstep.'
