A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after falling from her horse at North Bovey this afternoon.

The Devon Air Ambulance landed in a field to pick up the casualty as 60 firefighters just 100 yards away dealt with a major blaze which wrecked the village’s Ring of Bells Inn.

The aircraft was drafted in because the immediate area was congested with fire appliances caught up in tackling the pub inferno.

The woman was flown to Torbay Hospital after suffering from hypothermia and a suspected shoulder injury.

The accident happened just before 2pm.
