EEC FISHERIES AGREEMENT

He added the fight would go on until they saw their way through the welter of what he could only call the legislation indigestion, which was now bombarding them.

EXITS TO ADVENTURE 1972

There’s always a rush when the Devon Education Committee’s Youth Service produce their annual booklet. The activities offered to youths over 14 include sailing instruction, surfing, gliding, rock climbing, sub-aqua work, hiking on Dartmoor and Exmoor, canoeing and caving.

Mr. Brian Laister, assistant county education officer, said: ‘Those people who maintain that youth is lazy and not interested in adventurous activities ought to see the flood of applications. We wish finances allowed us to offer more.’

GIANT MOTHER’S DAY CARD

A giant 22ft long Mother’s Day card was sent to the education secretary, Mrs Margaret Thatcher, by the Brook Hill Primary School Parents’ Action Committee last Saturday.It took parents and children about a week to make, and was decorated with pictures of flowers. It bore the names of all 500 pupils at the school. The card was to remind MrsThatcher that the parents are still actively campaigning for a speedy replacement of the overcrowded school, and a delay in the start of the dual-carriageway, which is due to be built alongside.

BALLET SCHOOL

Ian Ball, 11, a pupil of the Spencer Edwards School of Dancing has been successful in passing the final audition, held in London, March 1972, and will commence his training at the famous Royal Ballet School White Lodge in September.

FESTIVAL SUCCESS

The Teignmouth Players met with considerable success at the Devon and Exeter Festival of Music and Drama. All three of their entries in the dualogues section obtained high marks. Portions from ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ and ‘One Way Pendulum’ were performed by Stella Bartlett and Jennifer Brittan, and by Dorothy Blackmore and John Fox respectively, while a section of Chekhov’s ‘Uncle Vanya’, presented by Jane Jacobs and Maureen Thelwell , was awarded a distinction.
