A NEWTON Abbot town councillor this week described as ‘absolutely appalling’ that planning applications for the Newton Abbot-Whitehills housing development (NA2), could be approved before the appropriate infrastructure.

As opposition continued to mount to the developments, where in total some 450 homes are planned, Cllr Richard Jenks said road infrastructure was needed to allow safe access to the A382 for residents and other road users in Newton Abbot who had to contend with awful congestion.

‘Building proper pedestrianised access to allow residents with children, pushchairs and disabled vehicles safe passage to town and local schools has to be put in place.

‘Everyone in Newton Abbot knows how dangerous the road and paved areas are on the A382 as you enter the town. Reading the report produced by Teignbridge Council there is greater emphasis on saving bats than children’s lives.
