A 66-YEAR-OLD Ogwell man was killed when he was struck by a train on a railway line.

Malcolm Whitehouse died in June at Newton Abbot railway station, three days after he told friends that he was feeling unwell.

An inquest has been opened at Devon Coroner's Court in Exeter and heard that Mr Whitehouse lived in Ogwell and was widowed and a retired optic technician.

The hearing was told the train driver was travelling at a speed and distance which meant he could not avoid Mr Whitehouse on June 22nd.

He died from multiple injuries.

The inquest has been adjourned to a later date.
