CHRISTIAN Templeman's efforts to shave off his beard for charity took an unusual turn when a barber who had promised to remove his whiskers went down with the flu.But Christian's sister Paula Guppy came to the rescue when she produced her dog clippers to step in at the last minute. The improvised shave took place at the Brunswick Arms, Dawlish, and raised £200 for the Force cancer centre in Exeter. It is a charity close to the family's heart as Christian and Paula's mum, Jackie Templeman, was helped there after being diagnosed with cancer in 2010.Jackie, of Barton Crescent, explained: 'The centre have given me such wonderful support and so much help, Christian decided he wanted to raise money for them.'I received such great care there.'They provide complementary therapies such as massages and acupuncture which helped me a lot.'They also offer a counselling service.'I am really pleased Christian managed to raise so much money for the centre.'After surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Jackie is now recovering.Christian, 30, who works at the Smugglers Inn, Holcombe, was left with designer stubble rather than the clean shave he had anticipated.l First published in the Dawlish Gazette, February 8.
