JESSICA Fleming was crowned Newton Abbot carnival queen by mayor Cllr Carol Bunday at the opening ceremony of carnival week on Saturday.
The event, in the pedestrian precinct by St Leonard's Clock Tower, then gave way to more than 100 dancers from eight different Morris sides.
It proved highly successful and attracted hundreds of spectators.
The carnival, in aid of charities B Mobile and Young Devon, has had events throughout the week and tonight features a fun run and barbecue.
The highlight is the carnival procession, tomorrow at 6.30pm.
