A tradesman from Kingsteignton has been crowned as the UK’s best plasterer at a national awards ceremony.

Nick Everleigh from EVE Plasterers was named as the Checkatrade Plasterer of the Year at its national awards ceremony at Wembley Stadium last week (November 19).

The ‘Checkatrade Grand Finale’, hosted by Sky News presenter Darren McCaffrey, saw the winners of five regional finals compete to be named the best in the UK across 15 different categories.

EVE Plasterers was the only company in Devon to be represented at the finals.

Checkatrade received more than 2000 nominations for its 2025 Plasterer of the Year Award.

EVE Plasterers went through to the finals after successfully competing against two other plastering companies, from Kent and Hampshire, to win the Checkatrade South Region Plasterer of the Year in September.

Nick attended the ceremony in London with his wife, who helped him set up the business 15 years ago and deals with the firm’s administration. He described winning the national award as ‘mind-blowing’ and ‘a real honour’.

Traders are nominated for the Checkatrade awards by customers and they are judged on the quality of their workmanship, commitment to best practice, reliability, trustworthiness and customer satisfaction.

‘We’re proud to celebrate the very best from across the UK. All these winners have been chosen and recognised for consistently going the extra mile, not just in the jobs they complete, but in how they show up every day,’ said Checkatrade chief executive Jambu Palaniappan.

‘From every corner of our country, our winners have demonstrated what excellence truly means. They’ve raised the bar, reminded us what pride looks like in action, and shown the real impact of exceptional work,’ he added. ‘We’re incredibly proud to celebrate their achievements.’
