AS Maxine Anderson’s year of office as Lady Captain came to an end, Teignmouth Golf Club’s Ladies’ Section were delighted to learn that £4,160 had been raised for her charity, Dogs for Good.

This was announced at their annual meeting on Tuesday evening.

It had been a year filled with fun and laughter as Max brought ‘themes’ to her year of events.

Max was delighted to announce that £4,160 had been raised for Dogs for Good and handed over a cheque to Jamie Sutherland and his adorable assistance dog Hettie who had been regular visitors to the club during the past year.

As a result of the fundraising, the Ladies Section will become a Puppy Partner sponsoring two puppies for two years of socialisation and special training and the ladies now look forward to regular puppy progress reports.

Vice-Captain, Sarah Plunkett has now taken over the reins as Lady Captain and announced that, along with the other section Captains, the Club will support two Charities during 2023/24 – MacMillan Nurses and the Teignmouth Community Larder.

Hannah Stephens will be Sarah’s Vice Captain and the ‘new team’ look forward to leading the Ladies Section through participation in the County’s Inter-Club (Still Cup, President’s Trophy and Sheelah Creasy Bowl) competitions and a wide range of social and golfing events.

Teignmouth has been chosen to host the South West Inter-Counties Girls’ Championship from August 6 to 9 and the club is excited at the prospect of watching some very talented youngsters play the Haldon course.

On Wednesday the ladies played a stableford competition over 16 holes as two of the holes were out of commission for renovation work.

With a chill in the air early on, the ladies dressed appropriately but soon found the need to remove layers, albeit not to shirt sleeves, as their round progressed.

37 ladies took part with one of the club’s newest members, Liz Tough, coming in with a magnificent 36 points to take the overall prize and see her handicap index drop by 4.9 to 26.3
