THERE is never a dull moment for Newton Abbot’s fire-fighters, as the crew took to Gilpin Demolition for their latest training night.
It was a late nights training for the town’s crew, who were faced with a mock roll-up Road Traffic Collision (RTC) drill at the nearby demolition yard.
The scenario involved two vehicles, one on its roof and another on its side, with multiple casualties trapped.
The first fire appliance in attendance focused on the car on its roof - crew members used a variety of battery-powered cutting and spreading equipment to remove aspects of the vehicle.
The team from the second appliance focussed wholly on the car resting on its side.
Using cutting equipment and reciprocating saws, the crew cut such that a flap could be created from the roof, which was then used as a platform to rescue the casualty.
Both casualties were removed from the vehicles using scoop stretchers, which are ideal for carrying casualties with possible spinal injuries.
