A group for environmentally-concerned business people is being set up in Dawlish.

The Dawlish Business and Environment Network (DBEN) has been started by James Roberts, of Hypro Hydraulic Projects Ltd, and Sue Haswell, of Big Future Marketing.

The aim of the group is to encourage local trading and business support, and to understand protecting the environment.

'We see a need for local businesses to get together and support each other, while encouraging a very clear climate change agenda,' said Mr Roberts.

Mrs Haswell added: 'We hope that local business owners and managers will come along to the first meeting and take an active part in driving this group forward.

'We have spoken to a number of agencies and they are all interested in coming to talk to us.

'By getting to know each other and inviting good speakers, we can help to deal with environmental issues, encourage local trading and have an enjoyable and interesting lunch.'

DBEN is to officially launch on Friday, April 24, at the Mount Pleasant Inn.

The speaker will be Cllr Andrew Turpin, of Dawlish Town Council.

He said: 'The need to take urgent action locally is crucial. We could be facing a meltdown and we need to be connected, collaborative and cohesive.'

Joining the group is free.
