Nick Scales, of Cartwright Crescent, Teignmouth, writes:

Great news that Teignmouth’s Cliffden Hotel has a more certain future, thanks to its sale to Starboard Hotels. This bodes well for the future of Teignmouth as a resort, so now let’s crack on and deal with that other ‘elephant in the town’ – the derelict seafront Bay Hotel.

If there is one potential asset and piece of real estate that could be purchased by a reputable small hotel group, franchise or membership/marketing organisation, such as Best Western, Minotel, Small Hotels of the World etc. then it’s this.

I do wish something could be done to tidy up the town, especially the empty shops, hotels and derelict spaces.

Many readers were upset when a leftie London journalist called the town faded, but just look around. Teignmouth isn’t what it could be, but instead of waiting for an infighting town council to do something, nor a district council in Newton Abbot, and county council in Exeter, both of whom consider Teignmouth as an afterthought for dog walking and summers on the beach, as well as an MP who appears not to like outsiders, and won’t help us get any grants and support for trade or tourism with Europe or elsewhere – and certainly won’t fight for any of the last of the EU money we could claim to develop the port, leisure, tourism and water quality.

We are on our own so I urge the traders, residents and businesses to work together and put the shine back on the Teign, while we still can.
