Cllr Jeremy Christophers, leader of Teignbridge Council, writes:
As leader it is rare for me to take the step of writing a letter to the press.
However, I feel compelled to set the matter straight concerning the news printed in the Teignmouth Post last week, surrounding the £2.5m investment from my Conservative administration in the Carlton Theatre, with Liberal Democrats Cllr David Cox and former MP Richard Younger-Ross claiming that they had influenced the decision.
The Conservative members from Teignmouth, including James McMurray, have helped prioritise investments in the town which, when coupled with the regeneration of Broadmeadow, represent the biggest investment in one town from Teignbridge Council in its history.
It is completely unacceptable for Cllr Cox or Richard Younger-Ross to declare that this funding scheme has had anything whatsoever to do with them and I challenge them to provide evidence of their claims.
The decision regarding funding for the development of the Carlton Theatre has been solely down to the Conservative administration. It has had nothing to do with Liberal Democrats or the previous administration, because they never actually allocated funds in a budget towards it.
It is unprofessional to claim credit for something in which one clearly plays no part.MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
