A NEWTON Abbot man found guilty of assaulting a woman has been placed on a community order.

William John Milton, aged 29, of Higher Roborough, had denied he assaulted the woman by beating her in Newton Abbot. He was found guilty by South and West Devon Magistrates' Court.

Under the community order he must not have alcohol for 115 days and must take part in a Building Better Relationships programme. A Rehabilitation Activity Requirement was applied meaning he must attend appointments or take part in a maximum of 10 days of activity.

A restraining order was made that he must not contact the victim, other than through an agreed third party or solicitor until January 3, 2026.

Milton must pay £200 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and £98 to fund victim services.
