A NEW Money Counts initiative was launched by Teignbridge MP Richard Younger-Ross, on Friday, to help 16-24-year-olds learn the importance of saving for the future and, in particular, how to avoid debt. It follows a £25,000 donation to Teignmouth Community Association from Barclays from its Banking on Bright Futures community investment initiative. Launching the scheme in the Kingsway Meadow Centre, Teignmouth, Mr Younger-Ross said learning more about how to manage money would help young people know when to borrow and when not to borrow, and would save them money in the long term. The MP also unveiled a new Teignmouth Community Association plaque, the work of local artist Shelly Wilcox. The scheme, which covers Teignmouth, Dawlish, Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot, Buckfastleigh and Totnes, will deliver workshops in schools, colleges and community centres offering practical guidance on budgeting skills. Teignmouth Community Association chief executive Will Fitzgerald said the scheme was aimed at those who are potentially going to struggle with their finances in the future. 'The £25,000 investment by Barclays Banking on Brighter Futures will help many young families and young people prepare themselves on the right financial road for the future,' he said.
