A GUEST house owner whose has triumphed in the Teignmouth In Bloom contest for the fourth year running, declared: 'Winning still gives us a thrill.'

Mike and Marilyn Waters took first prize again for their blaze of colour at The Moorings, on the main Teignmouth-Dawlish road near Holcombe, and the judge, Roy Halsey, of Bishopsteignton, described the garden as 'magnificent'.

Mr Waters, an engineer who travels all over Europe, said the display had now become something of a landmark and they felt compelled to try harder each year.

It costs about £1,000 in plants and untold hours of work, but he admitted it was a labour of love.

'Because we are on the main road, the garden is seen by hundreds of locals and visitors every day. Our guests also enjoy it and the compliments make it all worthwhile.

'Keeping up standards is an all year round task and the blooms suffered this year because of the storms.
