POLICE in Teignmouth and Dawlish have warned there has been an increase in moped thefts.

On their Facebook page the local police advise moped owners to head to Torquay tomorrow, Saturday, where the Torquay Neighbourhood Team will be hosting a moped property marking event at Lymington Road Car Park in Torquay (TQ1 4BD).

The event will run from 10am to 2pm and will give moped owners the opportunity to have their moped marked with SelectaDNA forensic property markers, a really useful tool in deterring potential thieves.

They say: ‘The unique barcodes help us to identify property at the scene in a matter of seconds, allowing us to reunite owners with missing bikes and also ensuring that thieves can't get away with possessing stolen property when confronted.

‘The force cadets will also be in attendance to offer other useful advice around crime prevention.

‘If you or someone you know might benefit from getting their bike marked, please share and we'll hopefully see you there.’
