A POLICE car was left partially damaged after an officer accidentally fired their rifle, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has revealed.

The officer’s unintentional firing of their police issued carbine left the central console of a patrol car damaged.

Fortunately, there were no injuries.

The officer in question was given reassigned duties.

The FOI states that the incident took place in Torquay in 2022.

There were no incidents in 2023 or 2024, the FOI also shows.

Police forces in England use a variety of firearms, including Heckler & Koch’s G36 rifle and SIG Sauer’s P226 and P229.
