Supermarket chain Morrisons is to move into Broadmeadow, Teignmouth, as part of a £20m deal to regenerate the industrial estate.

The chain was named today by Teignbridge Council after a series of bids kept secret even from councillors.

It will provide a 20,000 sq ft shopping area and overall create more than 275 jobs.

Mark Thompson, development executive for Morrisons, said: 'We are delighted to be selected as the preferred development partner for this exciting scheme and look forward to working with the council to bring forward a formal planning application with many benefits for the area.'

Cllr Alan Connett, Teignbridge Council leader, said: 'This will broaden the choice for shoppers in the area and alongside we will have other improvements too. We expect to release further details later this month.'
