AN appeal is being launched to send emergency aid to hundreds of refugees stranded at Calais.

A group of people in the Teignmouth area say they are moved by the plight of the men, women and children suffering in squalid conditions and want to help.

They are asking for donations, including clothes and shoes, shelter materials, blankets, cooking utensils, and hygiene and medical products.

A public meeting is being held at the TAAG centre in Northumberland Place on Tuesday at 6.30pm, to explain the scheme and ask for volunteers to assist in setting it up.
