A MOTHER whose son died in a car crash in north Devon has called for zero-tolerance over drink-driving legislation.

Jackie Brealy, from Denbury, made her call for a change in the law after attending the inquest of her son Paul Bovey, who died alongside his pal Martyn Windsor, from Brixham, after their vehicle lost control on a wet unclassified road and plunged into the flooded River Mole near North Molton 15 months ago.

An inquest in Bideford this week heard that passenger Paul, 24, and driver Martyn, 25, had each drunk at least four pints of beer at a pub on the night of the crash.

Ex-teacher Mrs Brealy, who established the road safety charity Pauly after the tragedy, said after Tuesday's hearing in Bideford: 'Drink-driving must stop. There should be zero tolerance – no alcohol in the system at all when you drive.
