Volunteers and community groups who make life better for people in Teignbridge are to be recognised with new awards launched by Teignbridge Community and Voluntary Services (CVS).

The launch coincides with the start of the 40th annual Volunteers’ Week, which runs from Monday June 3 to Sunday June 9.

‘Teignbridge has a thriving voluntary sector,’ said Teignbridge CVS volunteering development worker Chloe Myers. ‘We want to show these people our appreciation, because they make Teignbridge such a special place for everyone.’

‘We want to encourage as many nominations as possible,’ Chloe noted. ‘Whoever has helped brighten your days, you can bet they’ve done the same for others too. Maybe it’s the sports coach who gave your child their confidence back; or the kind volunteer who sat with you when you were anxious about your hospital appointment; or your neighbour who helps keep the street clean by doing litter picks and weeding.’

Nominations are open until September 30 and the awards ceremony will take place at the Teignmouth Pavilions on Friday November 15.

Teignbridge CVS is also looking for sponsors to support the awards.

Nominations, sponsor information and ticket requests for the event should be sent to [email protected]

More than 10% of the South Devon population are volunteers, and an additional 2.5% are employed in the voluntary sector, according to a recent Teignbridge CVS report on post-pandemic volunteering in Teignbridge.

Teignbridge CVS supports local voluntary and community organisations to develop and grow so they can keep making an impact and empowering their communities.
