TEIGNMOUTH’S flagship play park is open at last.

A six-week long makeover of the award-winning play area at The Den was recently completed, with the official opening taking place on Friday, July 22.

Families and children gathered at 1pm for the ribbon cutting, which was undertaken by Cllr’s David Cox, John Nutley and Chris Clarence.

With the ribbon cut and formalities wrapped up, those eagerly standing by were welcomed inside the newly refurbished play park.

Cllr Nutley, Teignbridge District Council’s  Executive Member for Sport, Recreation and Culture, said: ‘It is absolutely fantastic what they have done with the play park.

‘To do this in just six weeks is unbelievable.

Teignmouth resident Margaret Howarth said: ‘This is a lovely facilitiy for the youngsters, they have done a brilliant job – it is very well made.

‘Next time my granddaughter is down I’ll be sure to bring  her here, I know she will love it!’

‘It is also a great boon for locals, it is very good that this has arrived on time and on budget and I think it goes to show that Teignmouth is the premier holiday destination of the south coast!’

The equipment includes a range of sensory and inclusive equipment for age groups from two years up to 12 years that encourage play and social activity, investigation, problem solving and much, much more.

The new play equipment was installed by Outdoor Play UK.

Managing director of Outdoor Play UK, Chris Burley, said: ‘This was one of the biggest projects we have done.

‘There was a tight schedule to get it all done but we managed to complete the work on time and on budget.

‘It is a really good par, I live locally and as such I always bring my daughter here and play with her – it is nice to be able to come somewhere in the local area.

‘It is great to see it open and finished!’
