Teign Men 1st XI gave another dominant performance in a high scoring game to keep their chase for the top spot going.

On a cold day, Teign took an early lead through Matt Bessel, who was played in by fellow centre half Richard Fisher.

The visitors lost full back Harry Boother early on, who took a combination of ball and stick to the face. Fortunately he was wearing a gumshield, which saved him from any serious damage.

Teign's second goal followed when a poor clearance found Stephen McMorrow, who crossed for man of the match Tim Oliver to slot in at the back post.

The third goal was one of real quality. From their own 16-yard hit out, the ball was passed around almost every player on the field, before it found Oliver in the D, who tapped home for an easy finish.

Oliver then completed his hat-trick, smashing the ball home from a short corner.

Leading scorer Pete Brooks then finished off a move started from deep by Keiran Barclay, who found Fisher out wide. He played the ball inside to Oliver, who set up his strike partner Brooks inside the D.

In the second half, Teign did not find as much success in front of goal as they had in the first. Centre backs Jake O'Connor and Martin Hitchcock were busier, but soaked up the pressure with ease.

Goal number six for Teigns came midway through the half, a ferocious shot beating the keeper at the far post.

Some relentless work by Jacob Cawthorne up the left was rewarded when he broke through the line and played a lovely ball to Brooks, who wrong-footed the keeper before smashing his shot home for Teigns' seventh and final goal of the game.

Keeper Liam Town made a succession of great saves late in the half, which led to East Devon winning a short corner, from which a well-executed move gave the hosts a consolation goal.

Tomorrow, Teign play host to Chard.

l Both Teign ladies' teams matches fell victim to the icy weather.
