A Saturday afternoon of free fun and refreshments is on offer to the over-50s in the Kingsway and Broadmeadow areas of Teignmouth tomorrow.
Not only will the event provide a bit of cheer on a chilly November afternoon, it could also spark some ideas about how to make life on the estate better.
Tomorrow the Meadow Centre will throw open its doors for prize bingo, a draw, coffee and cakes and a good old natter.
Those attending will also receive a voucher for a fish-and-chip supper and, as the organisers have said, everything will be completely free.
Present at the event will be Will Fitzgerald and staff of the Teignmouth Community Association as well as representatives from Teign Housing and Teignbridge Council.
The team is determined to make life in the area a whole lot better but is insistent that the suggestions for change will come from the people who know it best – the residents.
Mr Fitzgerald told the Teignmouth Post: 'I'm talking regularly to officers from Teign Housing, Teignbridge Council, the police, indeed anyone like me who wants to make life here better.
'There is no doubt that we all have some ideas about what changes could be made but of course the most important people in all this are the people who live here.
'I hope that when people are enjoying themselves tomorrow, my colleagues can grab a few minutes for a chat and find out what it is that they want from their community.
'We particularly want to hear from our older residents, as I fear that all too often they feel left out.
'We're also going to hold another community day next Saturday for children and their parents so we can ask them too.
'There have already been some great improvements in the area and we know from Phil Colley, our bobby on the beat, that a lot of the problems we used to have are disappearing fast.
'But there's more to do and I really hope that people will come to these events, have a great time and claim a stake in the future of their community.'
