THE 'hard work' put in by staff at a Starcross holiday park has been recognised by Visit Devon's Tourism Awards. Cofton Country Holidays was awarded silver in the Holiday Park of the Year category at Thursday's ceremony at the Thurlestone Hotel, near Salcombe. The park was pitched against a long list of entries in a hotly contested category which covered parks catering for holidaymakers staying in their own touring caravans or tents as well as caravan holiday homes. Helen Scott, a director of Cofton Country Holidays, was delighted to beat off such stiff competition. 'We're incredibly flattered,' she said. 'Devon is understandably one of the UK's most popular holiday destinations. This ensures that standards are always high and that the region's accommodation providers lead the way when it comes to providing the perfect family holiday. 'Being recognised with this award is a fabulous testament to everyone's hard work.' Cofton is able to accommodate visitors with holiday homes, touring and camping fields, holiday cottages and even apartments. The park puts a lot of work into preserving and protecting Cofton's stunning setting, and this latest award will sit alongside ten consecutive gold awards from David Bellamy for Conservation. Sponsored by regional solicitors Stephens Scown, the Holiday Park of the Year accolade was one of seven presented in the ceremony. Ms Scott's fellow director Roger Jeffrey promised that 'the award certificate will be given pride of place in the park's reception so that holidaymakers and staff alike are reminded that we have a lot to live up to'.
