Cllr GERALDINE GASKELL, of Newton Abbot, writes in a private capacity: Isn't it big, it just fills the skyline. pity those people living close by it. and now it's going to be open 24 hours a day. pity those people living close by it. And the new road, has it improved the traffic? no. pity those people living close by it. Asda – whoopee, you wanted it, you've got it, and you've also got a store manager who says yes, they're going to take trade away from the town. Not one of the people who said let's have Asda gave even a little thought to the houses and flats close by. They just wanted a store that has everything under one roof, and to hell with anyone's peace of mind. We have already had the construction problems and now they will have rumbling lorries, the lights from the store and cars in and out 24 hours a day. In a few months' time I wouldn't mind betting they will want to use one of their car parks for a petrol station. Asda is here in Newton Abbot to make money and it doesn't care who or what it inconveniences, nor how many small town businesses fold because it is here.
