MARY ALLISON, of Newton Abbot, writes: The Asda store building is totally out of character with the architecture around it. However, it can be softened by clever, sensitive planting of trees and shrubs. There are lots of new earthed-up spaces and the lovely stone walling deserves some praise. It's not all negative – go stand on the new River Lemon bridge and you will realise how many green hills reach into the town. I do hope they are protected from building development, such an asset. The town centre has really opened up, exposing the attractive period houses of Wolborough Street and the library, currently hiding again behind a temporary heap of rubble. I realise it has been confusing and inconvenient, but it can all have been pulled together by trees which reflect the surrounding hillsides. Why not approach local businesses, schools and perhaps private individuals to sponsor a patch? all our parks are looking their best at the moment – so can the town centre.
