Teignbridge MP Richard Younger-Ross will be meeting with police chiefs to discuss the implications and impact moving police officers from Teignbrige to Torbay will have on his constituency. Part of the discussion will centre on the number of police community support officers to be employed to compensate for the loss of these police officers and whether their deployment will cover Friday evenings. Mr Younger-Ross will also be discussing the review process that establishes how successful and effective the new arrangements prove to be. 'I recognise that deploying more police officers to Torbay to tackle the huge drug problem will, in the long run, be beneficial to Teignbridge if it helps to stop the flow of drugs into the area,' said Mr Younger-Ross. 'However, I have campaigned for sometime to have more bobbies on the beat and I shall be seeking reassurances that this essential process is continued.' l Mel Stride, Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for the new constituency of Central Devon, is also concerned. 'As a resident of Ashburton I am acutely aware of the need for effective policing on the streets and have seen the real difference it can make,' he said. 'Our local neighbourhood beat manager has moved to Torquay, but there is no sign of a replacement. Many residents in the new constituency of central Devon have been telling me of their concerns over the lack of visible police presence and news of this announcement will greatly increase those concerns. 'We must do all we can to see the re instatement of a full complement of officers in this area as soon as possible.'
