POLICE in Devon are reminding residents to remain vigilant of a scam involving unexpected telephone calls from bogus callers claiming to be from their bank.

The fraudsters claim the victim's bank account has had fraudulent activity and that they need you to urgently transfer money, withdraw your money or collect your bank card by courier, Devon & Cornwall Police say.

A spokesperson for the force said: ‘If you receive a call like this hang up the call immediately and do not provide any of your bank details.

‘If someone knows basic details about you like your name, address or date of birth, it doesn't mean they are genuine.

‘The police will never contact people to ask that they transfer money from an account to aid an investigation or request banking information - if anyone does get this type of request, it is a scam’.
