ABOUT 200 people took an initial look at the new 'cop shop' which should soon be open for business in Teignmouth town centre.

The former store in Wellington Street is being converted into a base for Teignmouth police and support officers when the existing police station is turned into flats.

The new premises should be ready by January, and last week officers invited the public to meet them at the shop.

Surveys were carried out to gain feedback on issues that concern people, and PC Phil Colley said there was genuine interest and a positive response to the move.

'One resident even commented on an arrest that day, and said how pleased he was to see police stop-checking people and dealing with them in such a proactive way.'
