A Teignmouth PR company is offering charities, social enterprises and small businesses the chance to win £1,500 worth of marketing and communications.

The Power Up competition launched by Pilkington Communications is open to organisations all over the UK, but has been inspired by those the company has worked with in Devon since opening its Teignmouth office two years ago.

Pilkington specialises in PR and marketing for charities, social enterprises and small-to-medium businesses (SMEs).

Founder Jess Pilkington is conscious that many organisations of this kind are making a real difference in their communities, but lack the resources and expertise to promote themselves effectively.

She said: “Working with so many brilliant local businesses, charities and community groups has been incredibly inspiring.

“As a trustee at Devon Community Foundation, I also see first-hand the challenges many organisations face.

“Again and again, I meet groups doing amazing work but finding it difficult to get noticed.

“That’s what led me to create Power Up - as a way of giving something back to the community that has supported us, while also helping organisations across the UK grow their impact.”

When HSBC launched a similar competition last year to help small businesses raise their profile, it cited research showing that 38 per cent of SMEs said they didn’t have the time or resources to reach new customers. More than half (55 per cent) were relying on word of mouth and repeat custom to grow. Small charities and non-profits also lack the capacity to invest in strategic communications that could help bring in more funding.

Jess said: “These challenges are something we see locally in Devon as well as nationally. Many of the organisations making the biggest difference in their communities are often the least visible.”

Two winners of the Power Up competition will be able to choose a prize communications package from five options: digital discovery, press and PR, social media strategy, crisis communications or training and coaching.

The competition is open for entries until Friday, July 31. For full details, and to enter, visit https://pilkington-comms.co.uk/power-up/.
