A CATALOGUE of dirty and filthy conditions in a Teignmouth restaurant led to fines and costs totalling more than £10,000 at South and West Devon Magistrates in Torquay on Friday.

Maria Jane Webb, 46, of Harts Close, Teignmouth, admitted four charges of contravening food hygiene regulations at The Pickwick, The Triangle, and as sole director pleaded guilty for South West Country Inns Ltd, Alexandra Terrace, Exmouth, to the same offences.

The company was fined £3,300 for failing to ensure the premises were kept clean and in good repair and condition, and £2,000 for not ensuring that all articles, fittings and equipment with which food came into contact were effectively cleaned and, where necessary, disinfected.

business were kept in appropriate conditions, and £2,000 for not protecting against contamination.

The company was also ordered to pay £1,445.16 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. It was allowed to pay at £1,000 a month.

Webb, who has been running the restaurant for eight years, was given a conditional discharge for two years.
