THE CCTV system in Dawlish is to be upgraded to the tune of £25,000.

Town councillors have approved the revamp of the cameras throughout the town centre.

It has been agreed to delegate authority to the clerk to implement improvements to some of the cameras which need further permission for upgrading, in consultation with the chairman of the CCTV working group. As well as the existing cameras, councillors also approved provision of CCTV in the play park in Manor Gardens which is due to undergo a major revamp.

Cameras at the Manor House, Barton car park, Strand car park, Brunswick Place and Tuck’s Plot will all be upgraded.

Others at Riverside Centre, King Street and the Strand require other services to be involved before installation. Several will also need cherry pickers for installation.

Town councillors approved the proposed upgrade including an extra two-year warranty.
