Children from Buckfastleigh Primary School went batty this week when they headed into the countryside to find out all about the British bats.

Hosted by farmer Russell Ashford at Bowden organic dairy farm, Buckfastleigh, the event launched the Organic Milk Cooperative's Year of the Bat campaign.

It aims to raise awareness of the plight of these endangered mammals.

The day started with an interactive workshop led by bat expert Finlay McLaren, who taught the pupils bat facts.

They then got stuck into making their own bat boxes, which they put up on the farm later that day.
