A MAN who got lost after being ill-equipped for late afternoon walk on Dartmoor on Monday was told the error of his ways when he was found by rescuers.

The stroller from Totnes ventured on to the bleak moor at 4pm before losing himself in the Puper’s Hill area west of Buckfastleigh.

He alerted police to his predicament on his mobile phone three hours later.

Officers called in the Ashburton-based Dartmoor Search and Rescue team who found him safe and well just after 8pm.

His rescuers said he had ventured out without a map or a compass. He had since been given suitable advice about walking on the moor.

A spokesman for the rescue team said: ‘He is a lot wiser now and has learnt a valuable lesson in being properly equipped.’
