A GANG of youths allegedly attacked a group of residents who confronted them about late night rowdyism in a Teignmouth town centre street.

One man was kicked and beaten and needed hospital treatment for his injuries. Others were also punched and pushed.

The fracas occurred in Sun Lane – which is only about a metre wide and runs from Teign Street to Quay Road – on Saturday night.

There is confusion over exactly what happened, but apparently two large groups of younger teenagers were running along the lane, shouting and banging on windows and doors of homes and generally creating disturbances. It is thought they had been drinking.
