A TEIGNMOUTH residential road is completely choked with permanently parked campers, caravans, a skip and trailers.
Fed-up residents of Higher Buckeridge Road complain it is being used as a storage depot, and are urging the highway authority to ‘do something about it’.
The problem has been increasing over the years, and it is now often difficult for people visiting the two cemeteries and the community centre to park.
One resident said some of the trailers had been there for well over two years, and at least one caravan was being lived in. Other vehicles appeared to be abandoned, and several were not taxed, insured or had MOTs.
‘The road has become a free storage facility, and we have complained to the local authorities and the police, but they seem unable to do anything about it. It is a bit of a nightmare and an eyesore for those of us living here, and we would like something done about it.’
Cllr Sylvia Russell, the Teignmouth Devon County councillor, said it was a matter for the highways department, and she had raised it with them in the past.
‘I am told if a vehicle is taxed, insured and not causing an obstruction, nothing can be done about it. I am well aware of the problem, and doing my best to find a solution, but it is not easy.
‘The only way to stop it would be to introduce limited waiting, and I will be bringing it before the highways and traffic committee in September. It is an increasing problem all across Teignmouth I am afraid.’
