An amateur musician who had his instruments and equipment stolen from his van in Teignmouth early on Sunday has offered a reward to anyone who returns the items undamaged.

Bill Belton parked his vehicle at Park Hill, after a charity concert at the Carlton Theatre, Teignmouth, the night before.

But a thief smashed a window in the vehicle using a stone owl and grabbed the goods.

Several specialist instruments including harmonicas, two rare Bullet microphones and a 'piggy in a box' amp were taken.

'It's taken me a long time to collect all my equipment so that I produce the sound and music I am happy with, so I am really not best pleased it's all been stolen,' said Mr Belton, who plays with bands such as Johnson's Blues Explosion and Honey Bone.

'These items will be very hard to replace and they have sentimental value.

'I know I should have unloaded the van after the gig, but I was tired and didn't think it would get targeted.

'It's also going to cost about £60 to get my window fixed. I have no idea who would want to steal used harmonicas.'

A police spokesman said: 'We are aware of this incident and we would urge people not to leave valuables in their vehicles.

'If they do, make sure it's secure and anything worth taking is out of sight.'
