A plan to convert an unfinished sports pavilion in Buckfastleigh into a school for children with emotional, social and behavioural problems has run into stiff opposition.
Rochdale-based Continuum Group, which describes itself as a 'leading provider of acute residential care and educational services for looked-after children', has applied to the Dartmoor National Park Authority for change of use.
It wants to convert the unused football pavilion at the rear of Oaklands Park to provide five classrooms, an office, reception area, canteen/kitchen and toilets for up to 20 pupils.
The school is based at Staverton Bridge and has 12 pupils and 12 teachers. Continuum needs to relocate as the lease is close to expiry.
The Advertiser tried to contact the company several times but phone messages were not returned.
