OFFICERS from the Rural Affairs Team recently swotted up on laws regarding fishing as part of Operation Leviathan.
The team spent July 3 training with Devon & Cornwall Police Wildlife Crime Officers, the Angling Trust Fisheries Enforcement Support Service and the Environment Agency.
The training was to improve learning around fish theft, fish poaching and theft of fishing rights.
‘Thank you to Siblyback Lake for hosting us for the day’, a spokesperson for the Rural Affairs Team said.
Illegal fishing includes: fishing on any watercourse without permission; theft of fish from ponds and canals and the capture of protected glass eels.
Always call 999 if you know these crimes are happening now.
Report online if the crimes are not happening now.
Contact the Environment Agency for other fishing related incidents, like fishing without a licence or using incorrect equipment.
