AN APPEAL has gone out to Exminster residents for recycling donations.

The village primary school is asking for help to create a new outdoor sculpture, made entirely of colourful recycled materials.

The children at Exminster Community Primary School will be using anything from plastic bottles to boxes to build the rainbow sculpture.

Contributions for the project are needed so villagers have been asked to help supply the raw materials.

Rainbow Day, based on the school’s values, takes place in July and the aim is to create the outdoor sculpture to sit in the outdoor On Cloud Nine area.

A spokesman for the school explained: ‘We’re getting started on a vibrant and eco-friendly project for our On Cloud Nine area, a dazzling outdoor rainbow sculpture.

‘To bring this colourful vision to life, we’re asking for help in collecting clean, safe recyclable items that would otherwise be destined for the tip.

‘In keeping with our Rainbow values and our commitment to sustainability, we’ll be constructing the Rainbow using chicken wire and filling it with fantastic finds.

‘We’re looking for items in all the colours of the rainbow, the brighter the better.

‘We would love contributions from the Exminster community too, please drop donations to the school office.’

To ensure all items are safe for children to use, no glass, aerosols, sharp metals or containers of hazardous waste can be accepted.

Items need to be larger than a £2 coin but no bigger than a one litre bottle.

These can include bottles, lids, cans, old non soft balls and toys, plastic boxes, dried out felt tip pens.

Alongside the rainbow, the aim is to create cheerful and colourful bottle top hangers to adorn the trees and add more colour to the outside space so as many

many plastic bottle tops as possible are needed.

The spokesman added: ‘Your contributions will not only help us create a stunning visual display but will also teach children valuable lessons about recycling, resourcefulness and the beauty of working together as a community.’
