CELEBRATE National Cream Day at Teignmouth Farmers’ market this Saturday.

There will be free samples of Pat a Cake’s scones and Shute Fruit and Produce’s jam on Saturday, June 28.

But there is a catch: you’ll have to answer the Farmers’ Market poll: is it jam or cream first in Teignmouth?

As you might expect Pat a Cake local bakery, bakes, umm, cakes. And biscuits, and cupcakes, scones, traybakes and even raw cookie dough in jars. Lisa Sutcliffe, owner, baker, and chief chef (the only one) does all this, and more from her home kitchen.

Lisa is well known throughout Teignmouth from her many years at the Beach Comber café. She started out at age 14 washing dishes and worked her way up to manager and head baker, spending 34 years there, with time off for a stint in the RAF.

Then Covid put everyone into lock down.

The happy conclusion is that Lisa couldn’t stop baking, so formed her company, Pat a Cake, initially delivery only, now also selling direct through Farmers’ markets.

‘I love experimenting with new flavours’ said Lisa.

‘At the moment I am loving my caramel apple blondie, and it seems, so do the customers’ Lisa added.

‘Besides our local Teignmouth Farmers’ market I also pop up at Black Rabbit at Stokeinteignhead and Bovey Tracey markets I supply cafes in Teignmouth for those who can’t wait until the next market: Brunch, Finleys, The Ship, Milo and a couple in Dawlish area’ Lisa said.

‘My cakes and flavours change with the seasons so I never get bored.

‘But my best sellers are always the traditional home bakes.

‘Personally I’m partial to a coffee and walnut cake.

‘I can only bake what I do as I am very organised, and have the support of my husband, Rob, and the rest of the family’ Lisa added.

Find Pat a Cake for a sample, and your answer to the cream tea dilemma ,between 10 am and 2 pm in the Triangle.
