A flotilla of brightly decorated boats will make waves in the Teign estuary next Saturday (August 2) as Shaldon’s 64th Water Carnival gets underway.

The nautical parade is believed to be the only one of its kind in the country.

Carnival activities take place all day with games, stalls, demonstrations and children’s entertainment.

The 2025 carnival royalty – carnival queen Maisie Girling and attendants Fleur Viljoen, Isaac Yates and Kitty Knight - will be crowned on the beach at 10.30am.

A family fancy dress competition starts at 12.30pm followed by a parade to the beach led by the royal party and the Crooked Samba Band.

Boats participating in the parade will gather at 4:45 with the procession starting at 5pm.

The parade will be followed by a family disco and live music on the green throughout the evening.
