Marion Bassett of Honiton Road, Exeter, writes:

As an former resident and still a regular visitor to Newton Abbot to catch up with family and friends, I feel terribly sad at the vandalism to the oak trees in Courtenay Park. One can only wonder at the mind sets of such people who would go to the trouble to saw down trees which are so essential to the environment.

On a brighter note, however, I would like to comment on the wonderful floral displays in the park, and Newton Abbot generally. English Landscape are to be congratulated for their tireless efforts, especially when working their magic under such inclement weather conditions as experienced throughout July.

Keep up the good work. Your enthusiasm shines through.
