A FIVE-YEAR-OLD Newton Abbot girl with long flowing hair, is about to have nine inches chopped off so that it can be donated to a charity that makes wigs for children with cancer.

Skyla-Jai Smith bravely decided to face the scissors after seeing a television show about another child’s hair loss following chemotherapy treatment.

And Skyla-Jai is straight to the point: ‘I am cutting my hair and giving it to the Little Princess Trust. I want to give it to little boys and girls who are poorly and don’t have any hair, to make them happy.’

Mum Lauryn Breslan said they were watching a television programme and Skyla-Jai asked why some of the boys and girls didn’t have any hair.

‘I explained that the medicine they were having to try to make them better can cause them to lose their hair. She told me that she had lots of hair and that she wished she could give them some of hers,’ she said.

Skyla-Jai was adamant she wanted to do something to help and started making her plans after her parents told her about the Little Princess Trust.

The charity supplies wigs to girls and boys who suffer hair loss as a result of cancer or other medical conditions.

‘My fiance Dan and myself are so proud of our daughter and the loving and caring little girl that she is. We think it is lovely that Skyla-Jai wants to do something so selfless at such a young age,’ said Lauryn.

Skyla-Jai, who is having her hair cut on May 7, is hoping to raise the £350 needed to turn her locks into a wig for a sick child and a fundraising page has been set up to help her raise the money.

Anyone who would like to donate to her fundraising efforts can visit her JustGiving page – www.justgiving. com/SkylaJai – or by texting SSPT50 followed by the amount you wish to donate to 70070.
