Teignmouth Railway Station, 10.25am, Wednesday, August 6.

Me: 'Good morning, I would like to travel to Cardiff on Saturday and need to buy a ticket, please.'

Ticket clerk: 'I'm sorry but I can't sell you a ticket because the station is understaffed. You will have to go to Exeter or Newton Abbot.'

A ticket office that won't sell a ticket. A business that turns away paying customers. Now I know why this is known as the silly season.
