FIRE crews were called to a property in Valley Close, Teignmouth, yesterday evening (Wednesday, June 3) after reports of a battery pack on fire in a garage.

Emergency services received the call and mobilised appliances from Teignmouth and Dawlish.

On arrival, firefighters confirmed that the homeowner had safely isolated the property's electrical supply before crews began tackling the blaze.

The fire involved solar panel batteries stored in the garage.

Four batteries were damaged by the incident, while the garage sustained around 20 per ent smoke damage.

Firefighters used two breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets, a safety jet, a thermal imaging camera and a gas monitor to bring the fire under control.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service have said.
