Alan Jenkins, of Teignmouth, writes: I have received a letter from Teignbridge Council giving me the opportunity to apply to speak for a maximum of three minutes at the meeting for the Spirit of Teignmouth application to remain on site for a further 12 months, on June 26. The subjects we are allowed to discuss are: 1 Overlooking windows resulting in loss of privacy (there are no windows in the building ) 2 The building having poor design and appearance (you will be told it is only temporary). 3 Loss of important trees (the building took over a tennis court). 4 Having adverse effect on traffic (Most unlikely in this vicinity). 5 Noise and disturbance annoying local people (again hardly likely to be an issue). Matters that cannot be discussed or regarded as planning applications are: 1 Loss of a view from a particular property. 2 Loss of property value. 3 That the development differs from what the developer initially intended. 4 Disputes over land ownership. 5 Doubt over the integrity of the applicant. 6 Objections to the principle of development where an outline permission exists. This, with the banning of the press and public at the discussion of this matter by Teignmouth Town Council on June 9 as reported by Hannah Taylor in this newspaper, makes a mockery for the people of Teignmouth having a fair saying or hearing on the Spirit of Teignmouth issue.
