SPOOFING game profits have benefited the Mare and Foal Sanctuary.
The Welcome Stranger Spoofing Club, in Liverton, meets once a week to play this classic pub game, and all proceeds from the night are saved up and distributed to good causes.
Club member Clive Prows explained: ‘Spoofing is a game played with coins where players guess the total number of coins collectively hidden in each player’s hand.
‘The loser of each round puts his coins in a pot, and when the total reaches £200 we nominate a local charity to receive the money.’
This time the Mare and Foal Sanctuary, which rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes neglected, orphaned or abandoned equines was the lucky recipient of the £200 charity pot.
The club has raised more than £6,000 for charities locally and has been meeting for many years at the Welcome Stranger.
Clive added: ‘It’s a good excuse to get out and socialise with new and old friends whilst giving something back to the community.’
Simon Avery, of the sanctuary, thanked the club for their donation and said: ‘The local community spirit is what keeps charities going.
‘We’re so grateful for all the support we receive to help continue our rescue and education work.’
